By this point, kids and adults alike are feeling the strain of being in the house all the time! With so much negativity around us, it’s important to make positive memories for our children during this time. Here are 4 things to do in order to stay positive and happy during quarantine!
Feel it
We’re all feeling some pretty big emotions right now, so it’s important to process them. Take it from me, when you bury those emotions AND stay cooped up inside, those stressful emotions will burst out with a vengeance!
Make sure you find time to talk together and allow your children to try and articulate how they are feeling.
Journal Jar
One effective way to get the family to open up is by using journal prompts. Find some prompts online, write them out and keep them in the jar.
Lisa Olivera on Instagram has some wonderful prompts that even you could use.
Or try out these journal activities for kids!
When you sit down together, you can pick a prompt from the jar and each of you answer it. Younger children can answer the prompts verbally rather than writing them out.
PRIVACY – If you have older children, they can write their responses to the prompts without the pressure of having to read them out. It’s important you allow them their privacy with their thoughts if they need it. The main focus of this activity is to get those negative feelings out of their heads.
This is a great activity for getting your children to consider how they are feeling during quarantine, open up, and get advice and comfort if they need it.
Adult Time
If you feel the time is right to start your own journal, check out this post on how to start!

Home Theatre
Now it’s time to forget about why we’re inside all the time and stick a movie on. Set up a theatre in your living room with cushions and blankets, teddies, and dolls. Let your kids become interior designers for the day and create a cozy home theatre that will be fun for them to enjoy and watch a movie in.

Snacks – Every theatre needs snacks. Make some popcorn (try these recipes!), grab some sweets and settle down. My super friend makes some awesome surprise popcorn and hides sweets in the bottom of each child’s bowl. My kids genuinely go crazy for it!

Game time comeback
Ah, Family Game Nights. Both traumatic and thrilling, weren’t they?
Bring back some of the classic games and have fun with your family. Whether it’s Monopoly, Operation, Cluedo, Twister, or basic Charades – play games together as a family and notice how great everyone feels afterwards. (minus the “he cheated” tantrums, of course!)

‘Spark Joy’
This is totally optional. Because let’s face it, tidying up isn’t a positive experience for a lot of people.
However, if you feel your stress levels rise when surrounded by chaos, gather the family and Marie Kondo your house! Surround yourselves with things that make you feel happy and peaceful instead of stressed and tense.
Spark Joy – Quarantine Edition
Let’s be honest, giving things away or throwing things out requires you to ACTUALLY GO OUTSIDE. So for this activity, you don’t have to get rid of anything!
Just stick the joyless items in a cupboard for now or somewhere else out of sight. The important thing is you are able to walk around your house and see constant reminders of things that spark joy for you and give you a warm fuzzy feeling.
After all, no one knows how long we’re going to be stuck in the house, so we might as well turn it into a joy-filled space!

Over to you!
